In 2012, we saw a wonderful young duo at DKB take the leap to open their own very accessible restaurant. Perfectly tailored for Malle and its surroundings. Talent and passion always shine through… Lawrence and Thari are also quite sharp. They regularly visit well-established restaurants to see how things are done… and then return to Malle with a bag full of ideas and insights to translate all of that into their own creations, still with an accessible personal touch, elevating the culinary level of their dishes each season.
Lawrence remains a curious self-taught chef who prides himself on using as many local products as possible in his dishes. For instance, there’s a wonderful collaboration with De Paardebloemhoeve for organic vegetables, Den Akker for asparagus and strawberries in season…
Browsing through the menu, guests can enjoy dishes like vitello in the green with mackerel mayo, mussels paired with sunchoke and wild garlic, lamb fillet, or winter skrei with peas, carrots, and pomme Anna. Blood orange, crème Catalan, and sabayon provide the perfect finale. (chef’s menu 3 courses – 55€ / 4 courses – 68€). On Monday evenings, there is always a surprise menu with 3 courses for only 43€!
This amazing experience is only enhanced by the empathetic approach of hostess Thari, who, together with Sommelier Brent Kenis, will ensure you enjoy the perfect glass of wine and/or beer. Prefer to pair your menu with non-alcoholic drinks? Here, guests can choose from perfectly matched juices.
After a spicy renovation, the interior evolved to match—no-nonsense casual and “at ease”… It’s also a great place to relax on the newly updated terrace, of course, in the right weather.
Not only did Bistronomie quickly see the potential, but Gault Millau came and saw that it is indeed excellent. Jong Keukengeweld rightly selected DKB. Recognition continues to come not only from guests in the Kempen area but also from beyond, as people know how to find their way to De Kleinen Bistro.
