Behind the Mediterranean blue front door lies one of the greatest culinary surprises in Antwerp. Nestled at Kommekenstraat 22, in the shadow of the sailors’ quarter, chef Giorgio and hostess Delphine share their ‘Sicil’Inspired Bistro’ story under the enchanting name Arrikiiati. In the local Sicilian dialect, Arrikiiati means “having fun with food.” And yes, you’ll certainly have fun eating at one of the only 14 chosen seats. We thought so too!
Together, Giorgio Longo – a Sicilian – and Delphine Worms – a Frenchwoman – discovered flavors and aromas at renowned chefs’ restaurants in France, Italy, Corsica, New Zealand, and Hong Kong before eventually settling in vibrant Antwerp.
Giorgio’s cuisine is a fusion of Sicilian traditions with local accents, always following the rhythm of the seasons and with the utmost respect for what the land or sea offers at that moment. In the summer, the focus is on vegetables organically grown by small local farmers, while the winter is dedicated to fish and seafood from the North Sea. The dinner follows a fixed “blind” 5-course menu for €76. Lunch is available on Mondays, with a choice of a 2-course menu (€34) or a 3-course menu (€41).
At the time of writing, the locally farmed organic pig from “Farm de Forestree” is at the heart of the menu. Roasted pork fillet paired with stewed radicchio salad, glazed with carob and fresh clementine, provides a highlight of the evening.
Arrikiiati is rightfully proud of its varied selection of natural wines, carefully chosen by hostess and sommelier Delphine Worms. From more than 100 references, Delphine ensures the perfect pairing with the cuisine of partner chef Giorgio. Only organic and natural wines from Italy and France are served here, reflecting the nationalities of this delightful duo.
Some of Delphine and Giorgio’s favorites include: Faustine Abbatucci, an intense white wine from Corsica made from the Vermentino grape, or the Emilio Pepe 2007, Montpulciano d’Abruzzo for those who prefer a red wine. Alessandro Viola adds a “sparkling” touch with a Blanc de Blanc di Cataratto Non Dosé made in Sicily.
For anyone seeking an intimate, unforgettable, and surprising culinary experience where the focus is on local high-quality ingredients, with Sicilian traditions shaping the menu, complemented by meticulously selected natural wines, this hidden gem called Arrikiiati is a must-visit!
