Terrace
The restaurant of the future is located on Bollandusstraat in Antwerp. Bar Peche is the type of restaurant where you’ll want to dine at least once a month. A duo of great friends, one of whom takes charge of the kitchen in a masterful way, and the other being the best host you could ever imagine. With about twenty covers in a contemporary no-nonsense setting, a few seats at a compact counter with a view of the kitchen, a shelf stocked with both classic and natural wines, and a cozy boutique terrace when the weather is nice.
Semmy Roumans and Esger Van Lysebetten met through each other’s partners, both have Limburg roots, and on top of that, share the same culinary vision.
Chef Semmy learned the tricks of the trade at L’Amitié and Veranda, and now brings his own unique twist to the kitchen. Every five weeks, Bar Peche rotates its menu, which consists of 3 appetizers, 3 main courses, and as many desserts.
There’s always a choice between a fish creation, a meat dish, and a vegetarian option.
Beets are served with labneh and chickpeas (€16), cockles with samphire and dashi (€19). The combination of pastrami, sauerkraut, and mustard (€19) is one for life.
Or what about ravioli with mushrooms and cauliflower (€26), red bass with potatoes and radicchio (€29), or onglet with smoked potato and béarnaise (€29.50)?
For dessert, you can choose between sabayon, dame blanche, or a selection of cheeses aged by the Van Tricht family.
By this point, you’ll have already gotten to know Esger. Hosts like him, who can combine empathy and passion in a discreet yet genuinely warm manner, are becoming rarer. Be sure to let him guide you in your drink selection. Esger ensures that the “seasonal dishes with heart” by Semmy come to life even more with the perfect glass.
It’s no wonder that Bar Peche is the favorite of Celebrity Master Chef winner and radio icon Linde Merckpoel!
