De Wingerd: A Bistronomie Gem in the Kempen
Hostess Jolien Laenen and chef and partner Pieter Coomans are the driving forces behind De Wingerd in Vorselaar. This former brasserie and ice cream parlor was taken over by Jolien and Pieter from Jolien’s mother about two years ago. The restaurant underwent a complete restyling, retaining the brasserie feel while adding a gastronomic upgrade. The interior uses Belgian materials, and the terrace offers a peaceful ambiance surrounded by greenery.
The dishes have been refined by Pieter, who combines regional and seasonal products from the Kempen, such as saffron from Morkhoven and asparagus from Noorderwijk, with exotic influences. Bread and pralines are homemade. Local saffron is paired with Belgian chocolate in a unique praline to finish the menu. Pure flavors are at the heart of it all. Since 2020, Pieter has also been a Northesea chef and thus favors Belgian fish such as Vitello Mackerello and monkfish.
Ceviche is served with red beet, raspberry, and leche de tigre. Langoustine comes with curry and fermented carrot. Tomato features in a dessert with strawberry, basil, and sudachi. You can choose between a 3-course menu or the chef’s surprise menu. In the brasserie area, quality and fine ingredients also take center stage, with a Rubia Gallega entrecôte served with homemade béarnaise sauce and hand-cut fries.
It’s clear: De Wingerd is a bistronomy gem in the Kempen waiting to be discovered!
