Bar(t)-a-vin has been known for years as a guarantee of a cozy atmosphere, honest dishes, and surprising wine choices.
This well-known bistro is located right next to the Antwerp slaughterhouse district, in the shadow of the Sportpaleis. The building was once a pig butchery, and you can still notice this today. The authentic art-deco interior sets the perfect atmosphere. The 1923 wall tiles with little pigs and the rails with meat hooks have been preserved, maintaining the connection to the slaughterhouse. Owner and sommelier Bart Adriaenssens transformed this character-filled building into a cozy and very accessible French bistro.
The open kitchen at the back of this former butchery allows for interaction with the chef. Chef Tom Van der Borght always works with the freshest products and serves dishes with a classic foundation and recognizable flavors. The daily fresh products are made into daily specials, while the house specialties consistently impress. Be sure to try the buffalo mozzarella straciatella or the now-famous Steak Tartare Bar(t)-a-vin, which many guests praise as the best in town. A fish alternative is always available, and when it comes to wine selection, you can trust Bart without hesitation. There is no wine list, but top sommelier Bart has a varied wine cellar with over 200 references and helps guests choose the perfect wine.
And now, this address gets a brilliant twist for the weekends. Bart Gils & Sally Lauwers, former members of restaurant Signatuur, will take over the space from Friday to Sunday starting June 1, 2024, so you can enjoy Bar(t)-a-vin seven days a week. In the kitchen, Bart Gils will add his own touches to the dishes, but essentially, you’re still dining in the same restaurant all week. Now, tell me that the hospitality industry isn’t the most inventive and flexible sector…
Bar(t)-a-vin is the reference for relaxed enjoyment with a good glass of wine!
