Tom Algoet and his wife Sylvie Lecroart left their bistro in Mouscron behind and moved to the capital. Here, in Uccle, they opened “Les Petits Bouchons” in a former small house.
Les Petits Bouchons is a canaille bistro, inspired by French rustic cuisine. The interior is homely, warm, and cozy. The chairs, wooden walls, mirrors, retro floor… everything exudes a relaxed vibe. There’s no formal fuss here, but rather an ode to the authentic bistro.
This easygoing atmosphere is reflected in the dishes. Tom doesn’t use luxury products but cooks with simple, quality ingredients, often those considered second-rate, such as offal. Tom follows what the market offers. No fresh quality fish? Then there will be no ceviche.
The dishes are flavorful and no-nonsense. Tom works with local products. For example, sardines are marinated in Lambic vinegar. Vol-au-vent comes with roasted lamb’s lettuce. Tuna tartare is served with raspberry, samphire, and shiso. The merguez sausages, like the shrimp croquettes, are homemade.
The menu changes regularly and is also very affordable. The drink list features a selection of beers from local and small-scale brewers, as well as a number of natural wines.
Les Petits Bouchons offers down-to-earth bistronomy with flavor.
