Geert Weyn, despite starting his culinary journey later in life, has already built an impressive career. In addition to working at Chalet de la Forêt, Mugaritz, and Gordon Ramsay, he was also the sous chef for four years at the Michelin-starred restaurant Dôme in Antwerp. In recent years, he has been serving delicious, pure cuisine at Schnitzel on Antwerp’s Paardenmarkt. The cozy home-style restaurant was decorated in a no-nonsense manner, and the authentic tiled floor was restored with great care.
From the start, Weyn was able to convince everyone with his nostalgic, product-focused cuisine. All the menus (4, 5, or 6 courses) feature intense dishes served family-style for sharing at the table. With the name Schnitzel, the chef refers to the slicing of his homemade charcuterie. On the menu, you’ll find cime di rapa, egg, sesame, BBQ cauliflower with cheddar, mackerel paired with fennel and garden herbs, mussels with endive and chowder, and a beef croquette served with beetroot. The “folk” suggestion of homemade blood sausage completes the festive experience. For dessert, you can enjoy a dish with blood orange and buttermilk, a chocolate moelleux, or a cheese platter.
The drinks menu features both artisanal beers and a selection of interesting wines.
Schnitzel in Antwerp clearly shows that an exciting kitchen can also exude authenticity!
Schnitzel has also been popular with Michelin for some time. The Bib Gourmand is a tasty testament to this.
