Where better to enjoy a delightful glass of wine paired with culinary creations than in a historic building that houses both a wine shop and a restaurant? The old pear trees on the façade reveal the tradition of the building. The house itself was built in 1745, and in 1860, the wine trade Huis Vossen was established. Since 2017, part of the building has been transformed into August Wine Bar.
Chef Sam Verstuyf has been in the kitchen for some time now. At 19, he learned the ropes at De Pastorale (Michelin 2 stars), San Daniele (Michelin star), and Sea Grill (Michelin star). He quickly developed his own distinctive style and decided to take over August Wine Bar in October 2019. Sam, together with Bruce & Jo by his side, consistently offers the most surprising flavor combinations.
When you step inside August, you enter an old, charming house. The tables are spread throughout the various rooms of the building, each with its own unique atmosphere. From an authentic living room to a cozy Champagne lounge, from a contemporary lounge overlooking the kitchen to a spot in the wine shop.
At lunchtime, you can enjoy a light two-course lunch for just €28. In the evening, you can either put together your own menu from the beautiful à la carte offerings or explore the menu with a full 3, 4, or 5-course meal for just €45, €54, or €69.
August presents dishes where the focus is on the product, sourced from local suppliers. The top-quality meat is exclusively from our own Flemish soil, the fish comes from the North Sea, and most of the fresh herbs are grown on our own roof.
The adjacent wine institute, Huis Vossen, guarantees an impressive selection at remarkably sharp prices. Over 25 red, white, and sparkling wines are served by the glass, including outstanding Bordeaux wines from the owner’s own vineyard, Kris Couvent. Our beer homeland is also well represented thanks to a unique collaboration with Brewery 3 Fonteinen, known for its sublime kriek, lambic, and gueuze.

No matter what time of day you decide to visit, August welcomes you for a delightful glass of wine, beer, or non-alcoholic drink. From Thursday to Sunday, between 12:00 PM and 9:30 PM, we open our charming building with a spacious terrace for you to enjoy a shared platter, lunch, delicious à la carte dishes, or a 4-course menu. For each of these, we can suggest a perfectly paired glass.
